woobie military

Woobie Military - Woobie has long been a term of endearment for a United States-issued military liner poncho. The official definition of a woobie is anything, usually a blanket, garment or stuffed animal, used for its comforting qualities. Essentially, a woobie is a security blanket. The US Military Poncho Liner is a field gear item made of quilted nylon with polyester filling that can be attached to a standard poncho for extra warmth or used separately as a blanket, sleeping bag or protective cover. These poncho liners, or "woobies" as they are called, are highly prized pieces of equipment and soldiers will go to great lengths to keep them for life.

The first time I interacted with Woobie, I could almost walk. My father kept her after serving in Vietnam and she was always there. We used it as a picnic blanket or my sister and I rolled it up on long road trips. It made a stunning fortress and sometimes under our tent for a little extra warmth. I've seen deer quarters wrapped in woobies and literally anything you throw at it, throw at it, sit on it, spin it around, the woobie can be thrown in the washing machine, cleaned and ready to use. This blanket really does it all.

I want to be clear, I personally did not get my own woobie, but my heart goes out to every US soldier. to earn your own woobies. I bought my first woobie at a military surplus store when I was about 19 years old in Portland, Oregon. I left home for college and had just started packing for a camping trip when I walked into a thrift store, saw one of these blankets and bought it on the spot. I wrapped my first archery doe in it to keep the trunk of my Mazda GLC clean; it almost worked. Since then, that wubi has had many adventures with me.

For the past 30 years, IFB Solutions has been manufacturing True Woobies and soon after began selling them to the public. They are manufactured to exact military specifications issued for the armed forces. It even comes with an official certificate of authenticity. IFB Solutions was started more than 85 years ago to create jobs for the blind and visually impaired. IFB, originally Winston-Salem Industries for the Blind, began manufacturing the Woobie, or universal poncho liner, in 1991 and has since produced more than three million woobies for the U.S. Armed Forces.

Currently, the only place you can get the new Authentic Woobie is Amazon for civilians. They make a great gift; they are an important part of our kit and we couldn't recommend them more highly. Authentic Woobie is what you want to order and this is the only link to get cheap fake from China. Get Real Woobie and support American business.

Kevin Paulson is the founder and CEO of the company. His passion for hunting began at the age of 5 hunting with his father. Kevin followed his dreams by outfitting, conservation, videography and hunting around the world. What is a "woobie" and why is it so damn popular? We tried to find out.

Over the past few years, camp blankets have made a comeback of sorts. Pretty much any brand that makes a sleeping bag has one, but the craze has also killed hard goods brands like YETI and Dometic. It even spawned brands born on Kickstarter dedicated to camping blankets.

While old camp blankets conjure up the image of heavy, striped wools, there's actually a brand that's been making weather-resistant blankets with a technical synthetic inside for over 30 years.

In addition, there are military personnel and jobs are provided for the blind and visually impaired. Launched in 1991 by IFB Solutions (formerly Industries For the Blind), the Authentic Woobie was originally designed as a military poncho.

Now, thanks to the rapid growth of the quilt market, the woobie is experiencing a renaissance of its own. After producing more than 3 million military blankets since 1991, Pinnacle Mercantile is offering the Authentic Woobie blanket to the public for the first time this winter.

In short: It's not the lightest, warmest, or most high-tech camping blanket you can buy. However, the Authentic Woobie has strong ties to American manufacturing and employment. And while that doesn't always mean "best," the Woobie has the look, feel, and history of a camp mainstay you'll want to take anywhere.

If you don't get served, we'll forgive you because you don't know what a woobie is. But as part of the standard kit, its history begins in the mid-20th century, when technical poncho liners appeared.

There are various theories about the name - my favorite is "woobie", which is cold without it.

In any case, this is usually a problem for keeping warm. It includes a pair of ties in each corner and in the middle of each side. This allows the wearer to attach it to the eyelets on the poncho. In our use, it is ideal for creating a cozy ground cover.

With the right equipment—stakes and a few trekking poles—you can use it as a temporary shelter in a pinch. (The staff at Pinnacle Mercantile also make tent stakes!)

Let me be clear: this is not the next big thing. In contrast, the Woobie uses fairly standard but reliable materials and design. But it is the classic, simple design and construction that makes it beautiful.

The Woobie measures 91.5 by 65.5 inches (about 7.5 by 5.5 feet) and weighs about 1.5 pounds. It uses 30D ripstop nylon with a DWR treatment and Climashield synthetic batting insulation. And it has a total of eight 9-inch knobs that can be fixed or adjusted as desired.

That's a lot of features to say this is a great outdoor blanket. It resists moisture, although it is not waterproof. You can - and I did - drag him along the ground or over rocks, and he can resist a stray bonfire (provided you catch him quickly).

The Woobie is rated for 40 degrees and I overheated at that temperature. I used it exactly as it should be used: I wrapped myself in it first thing in the morning and then again when the sun went down at camp.

I also put it as a ground cover to play in the cradle - and it worked like a dream.

Unlike many camping blankets, this one has no zipper or hood for a neat poncho configuration. And no artistic prints or bright colors. And that's the best part about it.

Ties offer a lot of versatility and utility. And the average US Army Operational Camouflage (OPC) hides dirt and spills like a dream. It's built to get dirty, so you don't mind using it outside.

In addition to the finished product, the Authentic Woobie has a great manufacturing history. Pinnacle Mercantile is a non-profit organization under the IFB banner that provides employment, training, education and support for blind Americans.
